MOIST GRAIN SILOBOLSA®
ADVANTAGES_
Moist grain silage has a series of advantages which make it very desirable and competitive as compared to other systems, which is why it has been so highly developed over recent years.
- Early harvest: harvest can take place between 30 and 45 days earlier than normal, depending on the crop and the degree of moisture wanted.
- Fewer harvesting difficulties, since the end-of-cycle weeds are cut beforehand.
- Lower loss due to birds. This is particularly benefitial for free- or low-tannin sorghum, since harvest takes place before birds attack, or plant sprouting for excess of environmental humidity takes place.
- Early pasture release, enabling unconventional crop rotation.
Material can be kept near the place of use and crushed in advance for direct animal feed.
- Additional advantages are found depending on the farmer’s needs.

Crops traditionally kept as moist grain are corn (maize) and sorghum, the ones more commonly used.
According to livestock nutritional needs, different kinds of grain may be stored.
Grain harvest takes place when the percentage of moisture is between 28% and 35%. The decision is taken according to the harvester, season, crop and final use of the grain.
USAGE_
Within the wide range of animal feed, moist grain is found in almost all systems.
The quality of the material and its readiness for use make it an invaluable resource for farmers.
When approprietely used and administered, it is a highly nutritious component which improves animal diet, resulting in high fattening and growth yield.
It is also a profitable resource for the diary producer for its excellent results in dairy cow feeding and production. |
